A Gauteng teacher has been fired for sexual misconduct.

A teacher who was accused of telling a pupil she reminded him of the cartoon character on a packet of "NikNaks" because he "got hungry" when he looked at her, has been booted out of the profession.

The Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) found Siphamandla Ngiba, who taught at Parkhurst Primary School in Johannesburg, guilty of sexual harassment after six Grade 6 pupils lodged complaints against him for improper conduct in September and October last year.

The allegations included that he put his hand around a pupil's neck, touched or looked at five pupils' buttocks and called three of them inappropriate names.
