EFF leader Julius Malema has been found guilty of contravening the Firearms Control Act.

His former bodyguard, Adriaan Snyman, was found not guilty.

Magistrate Twanet Olivier delivered her verdict in the heavily guarded East London Regional Court on Wednesday, concluding three days of judgment proceedings.

The case, initiated by lobby group AfriForum, stems from a viral video filmed during the EFF’s fifth anniversary celebrations at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane on 28 July 2018.

In the footage, Malema was seen firing several shots from a rifle before handing it to Snyman.
