The 21-year-old accused of killing Kirsten Kluyts appeared in court for his bail application.

The 21-year-old accused of killing Kirsten Kluyts appeared in court for his bail application.

The man accused of the rape and murder of Kirsten Kluyts said he wore her T-shirt when running away from the scene because he took his T-shirt off to wrap up and hide the clothes he removed from the teacher's body.

On Monday, the 21-year-old, who wore grey tracksuit pants, a matching hoodie and Uzzi shoes, appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate's Court for the continuation of his bail application.

The Varsity College student can no longer be identified per the Criminal Procedures Act, which prohibits the identification of the accused in sexual offence cases until they plead, after the State changed the charges from murder to rape, robbery with aggravating circumstances and premeditated murder.
