The ANC has deployed Mbali Cele-Luthuli - the wife of ANC Tolomane Mnyayiza regional secretary Xolani Luthuli - as the troubled Umdoni Local Municipality mayor.

Cele-Luthuli will steer the ship at the Scottburgh-based municipality in KwaZulu-Natal, and this means she will report directly to her husband.

Although Cele-Luthuli was recently deployed as the Speaker at the municipality, the DA described her appointment as mayor as "shameless" nepotism.
