The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport has refuted claims that they are not handing out operational permits, stating that many long-distance taxi association members in Durban don't want to follow the process.
The department's comment comes after long-distance taxi operators embarked on a strike on Friday morning.
They blocked the N3 near the Pavilion Mall using trucks and taxis, bringing large parts of Durban to a standstill.
