  • A police officer has allegedly murdered his wife and domestic worker.
  • Police are searching for the officer, who is currently on the run.
  • The motive for the shooting is under investigation, but police believe it may have been a domestic violence incident.

Limpopo police are on the hunt for a police sergeant who allegedly murdered his wife and their domestic worker on Tuesday night. 

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said that the officer allegedly shot both women at his homestead in the Masisi policing area in the Vhembe district.

Mashaba said that after being alerted to the incident, police and paramedics had rushed to the scene, where they found the two women "lying in a pool of blood".

The victims were certified dead at the scene. 

The police have opened two cases of murder for further investigation.

"While the motive behind the incident is still unknown, domestic violence cannot be ruled out at this stage," said Mashaba.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe ordered an investigating team "to mobilise all resources at their disposal to track down" the officer.

"A multi-disciplinary team has been assigned and maximum resources mobilised to ensure that investigations are expedited to ultimately bring the suspect to book in order to face the full might of law. The police will do everything they can to find the suspect, dead or alive," she said.

Hadebe extended condolences to the families of the victims.
