Police in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo, are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving involving one of their own officers after a state vehicle allegedly hit two children aged eight and 12.
The incident occurred on Wednesday in Lebowakgomo Zone F, where the officer, driving solo in a state-issued car, reportedly struck the children as they played with a scooter on a residential street.
“Emergency services responded swiftly, and the children were immediately transported to a nearby facility for medical attention,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba.
The children sustained only minor injuries and were subsequently discharged.
“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident will form part of the ongoing investigation currently being conducted by the police,” he said, adding that such incidents involving members of the police were taken very seriously.
