Police have arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the murder of two cousins who were shot execution-style in Mamelodi East, Tshwane, on Sunday morning.

Tshiamo Moramaga, 22, and Baleseng Moramaga, 21, were found with gunshot wounds to the head along Sompisi Street at approximately 06:15.

The man was arrested on Monday after it was revealed a third person had been shot and injured.

“The police investigation revealed that a third victim, who was shot during the incident, is receiving medical treatment at hospital,” said police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko.

“Acting on this information, a joint team consisting of detectives from the Gauteng Serious and Violence Crime Unit, Crime Intelligence, and Mamelodi East detectives arrested the suspect at a filling station in Pretoria.”

A neighbour, who witnessed the moments leading up to the shooting, previously told News24 that one of the women had been arguing with her partner at around 05:00, shortly before gunfire erupted.

Family members described the cousins as being close, doing everything together, and even wearing matching clothes.

Sibeko stated that the man faced two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
