A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after he broke into his 84-year-old neighbour's home in May last year and raped her because she could only afford to give him R500 of the R2 000 he demanded.
Inganathi Ntwanambi was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Mthatha Regional Court on Tuesday after he was convicted of the rape and a charge of housebreaking with intent to commit a crime.
According to a statement from National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Luxolo Tyali, Ntwanambi initially tried to pose as the older woman's son, but she refused to open her door for him.
