Former National Assembly speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has lost her bid to force the State to hand over a portion of the docket in her corruption case.

Mapisa-Nqakula, accused of soliciting and receiving kickbacks worth more than R2.1 million while she was the minister of defence, appeared in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Friday.

Judge Mokhine Mosopa handed down judgment in an application by Mapisa-Nqakula, seeking an order which would force the prosecution to make further disclosures.

Specifically, Mapisa-Nqakula wanted access to Part C of the docket, which contains the investigation record, instructions to the investigating officer, and an index of all the evidence.

This part of the docket is not ordinarily disclosed to the defence. Mapisa-Nqakula also wanted the State to disclose a criminal docket relating to a corruption case involving Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu, a former defence contractor.

Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu is allegedly the State's star witness against Mapisa-Nqakula. News24 previously reported that the former contractor allegedly paid bribes to Mapisa-Nqakula at her request.

Mosopa dismissed the application in its entirety, but ordered that the State provide a progress report on the representations made by Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu in her criminal matter, which was struck from the roll in 2024.
