ActionSA members during a caucus break at the Johannesburg council.
At least five ActionSA council members have been fired from the Johannesburg caucus as part of a province-wide purge, which includes Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba confirmed the move on Monday but did not have the exact number of those fired.
He said the decision to axe the councillors was made on Friday after several of them did not meet their KPAs. The dismissals were meant to be carried out in May, “but we kept extending it”, he added.
He said it was unfair that some ActionSA members were working hard and not earning salaries, while others didn’t make more than 10% on their KPAs, but still earned salaries.
