Almost 77 000 matric candidates will sit for their National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams next week, but for communities plagued by a surge in gang violence, the safety of their children remains a concern.
The written exams for matrics will kick off on Monday, with a total of 66 831 candidates writing the first of 123 exam papers at 469 exam centres.
The Western Cape Education Department said that contingency plans were in place for any disruptions to the exams, especially due to load shedding, protests or strikes.
