eThekwini Metro Police Department officers have arrested two men following the discovery of a corpse inside their car, which had been stopped at a roadblock in the city on Sunday.

Metro police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu confirmed the incident and said the car was stopped at a roadblock on the M41 when officers noticed suspicious movement from the driver.

"The vehicle was stopped on the M41 by metro police officers during a stop and search roadblock. The driver started to get jittery and attempted to flee from law enforcement at the scene and officers gave chase."

Zungu said when the vehicle was searched, a dead body was found wrapped in plastic.

He said medical personnel were called to the scene and confirmed the person was dead.

"The two suspects have been detained at the Durban North police station where further investigations will follow.

"We want to take this opportunity to commend our members for a job well done in apprehending the two suspects," Zungu added.

He said 16 drunk drivers were also arrested at the roadblock.
