The former mayor of Mkhondo, who is the financial muscle behind the largest gathering of uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party supporters, says the event in Mkhondo, Mpumalanga, cost him around R400 000.

Vusi Motha, who was arrested a year ago for being in possession of an unlicenced firearm, said he was the primary sponsor of the MK Party gathering on Saturday. Although he initially claimed to have covered the cost of the entire event alone, he later mentioned possible contributions from other MK Party members in the region.

However, he maintained on Sunday that he bore the bulk of the expenses for the event, estimating it at around R400 000 - for catering, décor, marquees, sound equipment and entertainment.
