The first witness in Nafiz Modack and 14 others' trial testified on Tuesday how he shot the father of a Hawks detective in Melkbosstrand, instead of the detective, by mistake.
"Mr A" has already pleaded guilty to murdering Nicolaas Heerschap, in his early seventies, on 9 July 2019. He is now a State witness, serving 25 years in prison.
He was named in the original plea and sentencing agreement, where he said he was meant to kill Warrant Officer Nico Heerschap but was now referred to by that moniker during Modack's trial.
