The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued yellow level warnings for damaging waves and strong winds expected to hit parts of the Northern and Western Cape on Monday.
Impact-based warnings
- A Yellow Level 1 warning for damaging waves are expected between Saldanha Bay and Cape Agulhas from the evening, spreading to Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay by Tuesday morning. These may disrupt beachfront activities.
- A Yellow Level 1 warning for damaging interior winds are forecasted over the central parts of the Northern Cape and the Central Karoo in the Western Cape. These could cause localised damage to informal settlements, pose risks to high-sided vehicles on certain routes, and disrupt activities in the affected areas.
In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation. SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low.
