Five people were burnt beyond recognition following a head-on collision just outside Gqeberha last week.

More than 70 people were killed on the Eastern Cape roads since the start of December.
The Eastern Cape transport department said the accidents were scattered across the province, but most of the fatalities were on the R61 towards Mthatha and the M17 in Gqeberha.
The statistics came days after the national transport department reported a record 41% decline in road fatalities in the province compared to last year. The province reported 59 deaths between 1 December and 20 December, down from 100 during the same period in 2022.
