The family of the late Moses Mabhida said it was upset that the stalwart's name was still being used in ANC election campaigns, despite the neglect experienced by his descendants.

Mabhida was a senior leader of the ANC, its armed wing uMkhonto weSizwe (MK), and the South African Communist Party (SACP). He died in exile in 1986, at the age of 62, after sustaining a heart attack in Maputo, Mozambique.

Mabhida had left the country in the 1950s and his remains were brought back to his family home in Pietermaritzburg in 2006.
