The Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg has granted murder-accused businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe bail of R400 000.

Molefe, 61, is accused of masterminding the 2022 murders of music producer and nightclub owner Oupa John Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody, and his two bodyguards, Sibusiso Mokoena and Sandile Myeza.

Judge Brad Wanless found that the State’s opposition to bail was not substantiated.

“This court finds that the opposition of [the State] to the appellant for not being granted bail is not based on any real evidence.”

Molefe faces five murder charges across multiple cases, including the killing of engineer Armand Swart, as part of what authorities describe as an organised crime syndicate.

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi named Molefe in his July press briefing, alleging that underground figures had captured the police.
