A nine-day-old baby boy is yet to be found after he disappeared with a person who was with his mother at a Cape Town shopping centre on Saturday.

Baby Mogamat Imaad Sharmar was last seen at Middestad Mall in Bellville by his mother around 13:26 on Saturday.

According to reports from the police, while at the mall, the mother became nauseous and went to the bathroom, leaving baby Mogamat with the person she was with.

“Upon her return, the person of interest and the baby were missing,” police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said.

The Bellville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit is probing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Swartbooi added that the unit was investigating a kidnapping case.

When he was last seen, baby Mogamat was wrapped in a blue blanket. He has brown eyes, a light complexion, black hair, and weighs 2.1kg.
