Rise Mzansi leader Songezo Zibi refused major donations from private donors because he does not want to be part of the Multi-Party Charter (MPC).

On top of this, there are traditional ANC donors who are reluctant to give the political newcomers funding over R100 000, fearing condemnation from the ruling party, because donor details would have to be made public by the Electoral Commission of South Africa, as per the Political Party Funding Act.

Zibi addressed a gathering at the Cape Town Press Club on Wednesday, and touched on some of the party's challenges and plans for the upcoming 29 May general election.
