Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan found an unlikely ally in ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula, who defended the minister's governance of state-owned enterprises, which has seen the mass resignations of executives at Eskom and Transnet.
Gordhan faced a wave of criticism as his department saw numerous resignations at critical entities, with the latest being the resignation of Transnet board member Popo Molefe on Friday.
News24 previously reported that before his resignation at Eskom, board chairperson Mpho Makwana had clashed heatedly with the minister about the strategy at the entity, with the latest flare-up being over the appointment of a CEO.
