ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula said no law prescribed that the minister, as the shareholder, could not interfere in the governance of SOEs.

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan found an unlikely ally in ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula, who defended the minister's governance of state-owned enterprises, which has seen the mass resignations of executives at Eskom and Transnet.

Gordhan faced a wave of criticism as his department saw numerous resignations at critical entities, with the latest being the resignation of Transnet board member Popo Molefe on Friday.
