Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande appointed Freeman Nomvalo, the former CEO of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, as the administrator of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
It comes after Nzimande dissolved the NSFAS board with immediate effect on Thursday and placed the entity under administration.
He is expected to convene a "special media briefing" on Sunday to "explain the rationale for dissolving the NSFAS board".
