Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande has increased the annual living allowance for students attending Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges from R6 000 to R10 000.
Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande has increased the cap on funding for students living in residences owned by tertiary institutions or in privately accredited accommodation from R45 000 to R50 000 per annum in the metros.
However, student accommodation in all other areas would be capped at R41 000.
Announcing the state of readiness for the 2024 academic year at a media briefing on Tuesday, Nzimande said annual living allowances for university students will be R16 500, including R345 for personal care and R13 455 for the meal allowance.
