More than 80 wanted suspects were arrested in the police crackdown. (Halden Krog/The Times/Gallo Images)

More than 250 suspects were arrested in the Northern Cape in the last week, 88 of those arrested were wanted suspects evading police.

The arrests come because of Operation Shanela, which consists of stop and searches, roadblocks, vehicle checkpoints, and high visibility patrols.

The operation was launched a year ago by the Police Minister Bheki Cele, and Deputy Police Minister Cassel Mathale.
