Internationally renowned angler John Wickham was declared dead on arrival at the hospital after his friend tried in vain to save his life by giving him cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). 

Wickham, a well-known figure in fishing circles, was shot dead on Sunday morning at a guesthouse in Dullstroom, Mpumalanga, during an attempted robbery and hijacking. 

He was deputy president of the SA Bass Angling Association and hailed from eMalahleni.
