Sibusiso Zitha has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the murder of celebrity chef Thembekile Letlape, known as the “Pastry Princess”.
Zitha was convicted after he pleaded guilty to killing Letlape on 30 May 2024 by repeatedly stabbing her in full view of their 10-year-old child.
Imposing the sentence in the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Friday, Judge Shanaaz Mia expressed concern about the escalating number of murders of women in the country, particularly by their partners.
She said the sentence was appropriate.
“The accused expressed remorse and took responsibility for the loss of life. He has minor children who are dependent on him. He has spent over a year awaiting trial. I am satisfied that the sentence of 15 years is appropriate.”
