The N1 highway was closed to motorists on Monday morning after a truck overturned, leading to significant traffic delays.

The truck, which was lying on its side, reportedly after hitting a barrier, was blocking all lanes on the outbound section of the highway after the Plattekloof offramp.

Western Cape Department of Infrastructure spokesperson Jandre Bakker confirmed that the truck had crashed through the median barrier and overturned.

Videos and images circulating on social media showed the truck on its left side, with the cab and part of the trailer on the embankment next to the road.
