A part of an amputated foot was discovered by a community member in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday.

A Trenance Park resident found it on the grass next to Fig Road and immediately called private security company, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA).

RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram said the resident made the discovery at approximately 08:04.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said: "Police in Verulam have opened an inquest docket following an incident in which a community member found what looked like human remains in the Trenance Park area in Verulam on Thursday morning."

No other body parts were found, and police investigations are ongoing.
