A plush family home in Chatsworth, in the south of Durban, was raided on Wednesday and uncovered as an alleged drug laboratory, with police arresting five suspects in what authorities believe is a significant breakthrough against a local syndicate.
A man believed to be the owner of the property, along with four others, suspected to be his employees, was arrested during the coordinated raid.

According to sources, the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle a major drug distribution network operating in Chatsworth.
Provincial police, the Hawks, Durban’s South African Revenue Service (SARS) Customs Dog Unit, and the eThekwini Metro Police Drug Team descended on the property on Wednesday morning.
A man believed to be the property owner, as well as four others suspected to be his employees, were apprehended at the scene in Chatsworth.
Insiders said the suspects allegedly attempted to flush the drugs – understood to be mandrax and cocaine – down the drain when the authorities arrived.
Officers acted quickly to secure the premises and have been working to retrieve the flushed substances.
Police also discovered numerous firearms inside the house.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the street value of the drugs seized.
