The national Department of Health responded to reports of 800 unemployed doctors by saying young doctors don't want to work in rural areas.

The Health and Allied Workers Indaba Trade Union (HAITU) accused the national health department of propaganda after it blamed young doctors for not having jobs.
On Wednesday, the department said several vacant posts were open because young doctors were rejecting rural placements.
In a post on social media platform X, the department said some doctors preferred not to work rather than to work at rural posts.
