A relative has been arrested for the murder of a Limpopo woman and her son, whose mutilated bodies were found days apart.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said officers discovered the decomposing body of Magdeline Motlanthe in a shallow grave in bushes along Roedtan Road in Zebediela.

Ledwaba added Motlanthe's attackers kidnapped her from her home before murdering her.

Her family last saw her on 8 January on her way to visit relatives in Pretoria from Ivy Park Extension 19 in Polokwane.

Ledwaba said Motlanthe's family reported her missing after they realised she never made it home.

An investigation by Westenburg detectives led to the arrests of one of Motlanthe's relatives and a foreign national.

The investigation also linked the duo to the murder of Motlanthe's son, whose mutilated body was found in a shallow grave in Apel on 4 January.

"Both bodies were dismembered. The police investigation team arrested a foreign national and a suspect related to the deceased, and more arrests are underway," said Ledwaba.

He added the relative and his alleged accomplice faced double murder, house robbery and kidnapping charges.
