News24 | Remains of North West baby who went missing five years ago found in pit toilet

North West police have discovered what are believed to be the remains of seven-month-old Keamogetse Setshego, who went missing five years ago.

The remains were found in a pit toilet this week in Kabe village, near Mahikeng. On Friday, teams of forensic officials were still sweeping the area in search of more body parts of the baby.

The newborn and her then 27-year-old mother both went missing from the village on 29 April 2019. The mother's remains were found a month later in another pit toilet in the same area.

Further investigations revealed that a man's body was also retrieved from a pit toilet on 21 April 2019. He was a possible witness to the disappearance of the mother and her baby.

On Wednesday, four people appeared in the Molopo Magistrate's Court in connection with the murders.

Mmapula Seletedi, 29, Lesego Seletedi, 39, Lorato Molefe, 37, and Goitseone Seletedi, 28, were arrested on 15 June 2024 in Mocoseng village outside Mahikeng.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said that after five years of searching for the baby, police were able to get information from one of the accused, who led them to the latrine where the remains were found.

"The remains will now be subject to DNA testing so we can confirm if it is, in fact, the baby. Our team of forensics are still searching for more body parts," he said.
