A truck transporting alcohol lost its load along the N8 highway in Free State on Tuesday.
Free State health authorities were left stunned when patients who were being transported by a state ambulance recovered enough to leap from the vehicle and rush to loot booze from an accident scene on Tuesday.
The loot was then loaded into the ambulance.
The Free State Department of Health has since launched a probe.
