As South Africa continues to battle perennial load shedding and heads toward a general election, the country's security bosses have flagged unstable energy supply and civil unrest as critical risks for the year ahead.

This is according to the World Security Report, commissioned by multinational G4S, and exclusively obtained by News24, which surveyed nearly 2 000 security actors in an industry worth $20 trillion. 

Of the 30 countries examined in the study, South Africa was expected to be the nation most impacted by disruption to energy supply in 2024.
