The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of damaging winds in parts of the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and Northern Cape, while thundershowers are forecast for five provinces.
Impact-based warning
Yellow Level 4 warning: Damaging winds, leading to a major build-up of sand on coastal routes, localised disruption of small harbours or ports for a short period, and damage to settlements and infrastructure are expected along the coast between Port Edward and Cape Vidal, as well as in the adjacent interior.
Yellow Level 2 warning: Damaging winds and waves, resulting in localised difficulty navigating small boats, are expected in places along the coast between Algoa Bay and Port Edward. There is a risk of vessels taking on water and capsizing within a locality.
Weather advisory: Surface weather systems are expected to result in a tight pressure gradient along the east coast of RSA, as well as over the central and western parts. Windy surroundings are in the forecast & the public is advised to be vigilant during these windy conditions. pic.twitter.com/0fV3SPW7wr
— SA Weather Service (@SAWeatherServic) October 3, 2025Yellow Level 2 warning: Damaging interior winds, resulting in damage to settlements and problems for high-sided vehicles, are expected over the southern parts of the Free State and Northern Cape.
In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that a higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
The SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low.
