Heavy rain is expected in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape, with chilly conditions in the latter, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS).
Damaging waves and winds are also forecast in parts of the Eastern Cape.
Impact-based warnings
- Yellow level 2 warning: Disruptive rain on KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast and adjacent interior may lead to localised flooding in vulnerable areas, slippery roads causing minor motor vehicle accidents, and reduced visibility.
- Yellow level 2 warning: Damaging waves between Hondeklip Bay and Plettenberg Bay pose hazards for small vessels, increasing the risk of capsizing. Seafarers are advised to exercise caution until Saturday afternoon.
- Yellow level 1 warning: Damaging waves and winds from Plettenberg Bay to Hamburg could disrupt port operations and navigation, as well as the risk of small vessels taking on water.
In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low.
Advisories
Very cold conditions are expected in areas of the Eastern Cape, including Chris Hani and Alfred Nzo district municipalities, as well as Elundini and Mhlontlo local municipalities.
