The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours in parts of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
Wet conditions are also forecast in parts of the Western Cape, Free State, and Northern Cape.
Impact-based warnings
Yellow level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms resulting in heavy downpours leading to flooding of susceptible roads, settlements, low-lying bridges/areas, strong damaging winds and hail are expected over the eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.
Yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms resulting in heavy downpours leading to localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges as well as strong damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail are expected over the Eastern Cape excluding the extreme south-west and south-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that a higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
