The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms across large parts of the country.
Impact-based warning:
Yellow level 2 warning: Severe thunderstorms are expected over large parts of the central interior, Gauteng, and the eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, and south-west Limpopo. These may lead to localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, localised damage to settlements, large amounts of small hail, excessive lightning, and strong damaging winds.
Advisory:
Hot and humid weather will result in very uncomfortable conditions over the north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal until Sunday.
In the SAWS’s colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that a higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
The SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and level 4 is low.
