Impact-based warnings

Orange level 5 warning: Severe thunderstorms, causing potential flooding of roads, bridges, and low-lying areas, as well as damage to infrastructure and loss of livestock, are expected in the Western parts of North West, extreme north-eastern Northern Cape, and most parts of Free State, except the north and south.

Yellow level 4 warning: Severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, lightning, damaging winds, and hail, leading to potential danger to life, disruption of travel, and loss of property, are forecasted in central and western parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

Yellow level 2 warning: Severe, localised thunderstorms with flooding risks are expected in the northern and southern Free State, eastern North West, north-eastern Northern Cape, Gauteng, southern Mpumalanga, extreme north-eastern Eastern Cape, and coastal areas of KwaZulu-Natal.

In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
