Professor Tshilidzi Marwala
The former vice-chancellor of
the University of Johannesburg (UJ), Professor Tshilidzi Marwala, earned R9.2
million last year, including R3.7 million in "merit and other
payments".
His counterpart at Wits University, Professor Zeblon Vilakazi, received an annual remuneration of R6.3 million, which included a "variable payment" of R761 000.
Professors Andrew Crouch and Thoko Mayekiso, who are at the helm of the country's smallest institutions - Sol Plaatje University (SPU) in Northern Cape and the University of Mpumalanga (UMP) - earned more than their colleague at the University of Pretoria (UP), Professor Tawana Kupe.
