Slightly cooler weather might offer some respite for firefighters who have been battling a blaze in the Cape Winelands for eight days.

On Monday morning, the Cape Winelands District Municipality's Fire Services said fires in the Breede Valley and Witzenberg continued to burn out of control.

Municipal spokesperson Jo-Anne Otto said: "The crews report that the cooler nighttime temperature and lack of wind resulted in a quieter night with better outcomes on both fires. The hot, dry weather combined with the available fuel of aged fynbos and alien vegetation, or a combination of both, is perfect for fires, which in turn impacts the outcomes of firefighting activities."
