A State witness was gunned down at the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning. Details surrounding the incident are still sketchy, but the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed the victim was a witness in an ongoing case.
Confirming the shooting, Western Cape NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said: "We have been informed that the deceased was a State witness, but at this stage, we are not in a position to confirm [which case] as the matter is under investigation."
Graphic images, depicting a man dressed all in white slumped over a bench in a court hallway, were shared on social media.
A small trace of blood can be seen next to the victim's head, while a short video clip captures a police officer with his firearm drawn.
Western Cape police were asked for comment and it will be added once received.
