The rectorate of Stellenbosch University has unanimously accepted the recommendation of a panel that the controversial Wilgenhof residence be closed.
In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, the university said the rector, Professor Wim de Villiers, would recommend to the council that Wilgenhof residence be closed, and that alternative uses be considered for the buildings.
"Council will consider the rector's recommendations at its meeting of 24 June 2024."
