Christo van der Merwe, 57, died on Saturday.

Only the charred remains of 57-year-old man, Christo van der Merwe, were left after robbers set his Boksburg house alight and stole his Honda Civic.

This is according to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, who said they were yet to arrest anyone in connection with the attack at Van der Merwe's Impala Park house over the weekend.

Van der Merwe's sister, Marietjie Pienaar, told News24 it was unclear whether the robbers had killed him first or whether he died in the blaze.
