Western Cape police are investigating the murder of three men, whose bodies were found in a vehicle in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay.

The bodies were found on Tuesday after 23:45.

Police spokesperson Colonel André Traut said police were alerted to the scene at Holomisa Square, where a silver Hyundai i20 was found with the bodies of three unidentified men inside.

Their bodies had gunshot wounds.

“The motive for the triple murder is yet to be established; however, extortion-related activity has not been ruled out as a possible factor,” Traut said.

He added that detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit were pursuing all leads.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile condemned the senseless act of violence, describing it as a callous disregard for human life.

“The level of violence displayed in this incident is deeply concerning. We urge community members to work with us by providing any information that could assist in tracking down those behind this crime,” he said.

Community Safety MEC Anroux Marais expressed sadness over the crime, calling on communities to play a role in ensuring safer neighbourhoods.

She said:

We cannot allow criminal elements to hold our communities hostage.

Marais encouraged residents to utilise available platforms, such as the Crime Stop number (08600 10111) or the My SAPS mobile app, to report any information anonymously.

“Every bit of information helps and could be the key to solving this case and securing convictions.”

She commended ongoing efforts by law enforcement in seizing illegal firearms and ammunition.
