According to the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) Limpopo, the 22-seater taxi belonging to the Bochum Taxi Association was travelling from Polokwane to Bochum.
“It is reported that the taxi was struck by a truck carrying three trailers, which swerved into the taxi’s lane after overtaking other vehicles,” said Santaco Limpopo’s Hlokomela champion, Masilo Mamorobela.
He said the 20 injured were transported to various hospitals in the region.
“We convey our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased: two females and the male driver,” Mamorobela said.

“Our thoughts are with the injured, including 10 seriously hurt, who are receiving treatment at various hospitals.”

He said he visited the injured and requested prayers for their recovery, as well as comfort for the bereaved families.
Santaco Limpopo chairperson Lesiba Ngoepe raised concerns about the road, saying, “This incident highlights concerns about the R521 Dendron Road, where repeated fatal accidents have occurred. We urge the government to consider widening the lanes to improve safety.”
