  • They are accused of murdering a metered Bolt taxi driver before burning his body.
  • Two of the suspects handed themselves over to the police.

Three teenage boys have been arrested after the charred body of a metered taxi driver was found in the Westenburg area in Polokwane, Limpopo last week.

It's alleged the trio requested to be transported by the Bolt metered taxi on Monday.

Along the way, they allegedly stabbed the driver to death before burning his body and dumping it on a newly developed site near the Place of Safety Shelter in Westenburg.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said a 17-year-old minor was arrested on Tuesday, while two of his accomplices, aged 15 and 16, were arrested on Friday.

The latter two had handed themselves over to the police, accompanied by their parents.

The hijacked motor vehicle was found abandoned at a park in the Ladine aread of Polokwane.

"All of the arrested suspects in this horrendous crime were found to be minors… very disturbing that our children are now involved in such criminal activities," Limpopo Provincial Commissioner General Thembi Hadebe said.

"This [youngster] exhibits an unbelievable lack of moral fibre by robbing the victims and murdering them so brutally… unacceptable in this province," he added.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court in due course following the completion of the diversion programmes with the probation officer and social workers.

News24 reached out to Bolt for comment, which will be added once received.
