News24 | Three men convicted of premeditated murder of North West farm worker

Jaco Kemp, Louis Coetzee and Gert van der Westhuizen have been found guilty of beating Dumisani Phakathi to death on a North West farm in September 2023.

The three accused appeared in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday, where they were found guilty of premeditated murder.

Judge Portia Phahlane found that Kemp, Coetzee and Van der Westhuizen all acted in common purpose when Phakathi was murdered, and that his body was loaded onto the back of a bakkie, and hidden under refuse bags, to be disposed of.

The court further accepted the evidence that Phakathi was on the property to fetch water from a furrow and that he did not pose a threat to anyone.
