Gauteng, the Free State, North West, Mpumalanga, and western KwaZulu-Natal face possible afternoon thunderstorms, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned.
Impact-based warnings:
Yellow level 2 warning: Severe thunderstorms are expected over vast parts of the Free State, North West, Gauteng, western KwaZulu-Natal, and southern Mpumalanga. These storms may bring localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, large amounts of small hail, and localised infrastructure damage due to damaging winds.
In the SAWS’s colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that a higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
The SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and level 4 is low.
